Fuchsia in the Glasshouse - 2018
Wisley, England United Kingdom
A colourful and exciting display from the Wisley Fuchsia collection.
The Glasshouse team put together a stunning show, featuring a range of sizes and colours for our visitors to admire.
The huge cathedral-like Glasshouse, covering the area of 10 tennis courts and rising to 12m (40ft) high, is home to the RHS’s world-class tender plant collection. It was built to celebrate the RHS Bicentenary and is carefully controlled to maintain desired levels of light, heat and ventilation.
Entering the Glasshouse is like walking into a jungle – tree ferns, tall palms, lush-leaved creepers and dazzling flower displays give a feeling of lushness and drama. As you follow the path, the environment and climate changes gradually, taking you on a tour through the world of plants, including many difficult to grow, rare and endangered species. There are three climatic zones to explore: tropical, moist temperate and dry temperate. The tropical zone is home to the annual ‘Butterflies in the Glasshouse’ event – the place to be over winter months when the weather is cold. The display is free with normal Garden admission.
