The Amazing Corpus Domini “Infiorata” In Brugnato
Today and tomorrow the streets of the village of Brugnato are colored for the Infiorata of Corpus Domini
A tradition now consolidated for the small community of Val di Vara, which each year sets up a real kaleidoscope of drawings made with flowers lying on the borough streets, which represent religious symbols and local history.
Today’s work has begun for the inhabitants of the village: they have stylized geometric shapes, with the outlines of flowers with the strongest colors.
The evening, starting from the 7pm, is also animated with live music and the opening of many local crafts. There is also the suggestion of Local Street Food.
Tomorrow, infiorators begin to decorate with their multicolored flowers all the drawings sketched earlier, in a real floral show. Younger and younger people actively participate in the selection of flowers with which they form the long-drawn and studied works of art.
Perhaps not everyone knows that the tradition of the inflorescence, widespread throughout Italy, reminds us of the miracle that took place in Bolsena in 1263, when the priest bohemian Pietro da Praga was walking to Rome to reflect on his doubts of faith. During a Mass, the Corpus Christi holding in his hands had become flesh that was miraculously blood-stained. Since then, in Bolsena, one of the stained-glass marbles of the miracle has been brought into procession. But in 1811, when the state of the Church was in the hands of the French, Bolsena had to prove that a relic was kept inside the church of Santa Cristina, so that it would not be destroyed. This was solemnly carried in procession on a path completely adorned with flowers.
