Lalbagh Flower Show - 2020
Bengaluru, KA India
The Lalbagh Flower Show has been one of the most awaited events in the Garden City!
Flower shows are conducted every year during the week of Republic day and Independence day, to educate people about the variety of flora and develop public interest in plant conservation and cultivation. This year’s Republic Day National Flower Festival at Lalbagh will be historic as so far it had been restricted to participants from Karnataka. Other States expected to showcase their native flowers are Goa, Maharashtra and several from the North East, according to Lalbagh authorities.
The Glass House
Of the many artistic structures in Lalbagh, the Glass House is the most famous. In the necklace of Bangalore’s gardens, Lalbagh is a pendant and in the centre of this pendant is the glass house in the form of a diamond. Today, as the jewel of Lalbagh, it is the centre stage for holding the famous biannual flower shows.
There is a stunning resemblance between Bangalore in India and London in England, as many structures in Bangalore city have been modeled upon the structures in London. The foremost of these structures is “The Glass House of Lalbagh” constructed in the year 1890 on the model of Crystal Palace of London. In year 1936 Crystal Palace accidentally caught fire and was burnt down. Thus, the glory of the great structure ‘CRYSTAL PALACE’ ended. Only its model remained with ‘The Glass House’ in Lalbagh, Bangalore. Hence, it may not be wrong to call the Glass House of Lalbagh as the Crystal Palace of India.
