Winter Walk at RHS Wisley - 2019
Wisley, England United Kingdom
Explore this seasonal walk full of winter scents, colours and textures!
With architectural outlines softened by modern mass plantings, there are many views to enjoy. Families love to visit Wisley in the winter time when frosty days sharpen the senses and the air sparkles. Winter flowering plants are such a delight, for example sarcococca confusa (the sweet box) with its tiny honey scented flowers that bloom from December through March. Look out for hamamelis, the witch hazels, that flowers in late winter. Its spidery flowers, ranging from the palest yellow to deep rust, stand out on bare stems, and have a delicate, spicy fragrance. Winter stems of cornus, rubus and acer negundo can be seen reflected in the still waters of the Seven Acres Lake, and winter flowering heathers are a delight along recently planted winter borders. The Food Hall and Glasshouse Café provide a welcome refuge from the cold and offer warming drinks and snacks as well as more hearty fare for the hungry, such a soups, sandwiches and main meals.
