On a bed of Tulips
Keukenhof garden tour: On a bed of Tulips
Like the colorful palette of a painter. It’s the best way to describe the Keukenhof Garden, probably the most beautiful spring garden in the world. With over more than 7 million flower bulbs in bloom each spring, it’s hardly arguable. Reason enough to plan a Keukenhof Garden Tour.

English landscape garden
The origin of the Keukenhof Garden is to be found in 15th-century hunting grounds. Those grounds were owned by countess Jacoba van Beieren, who used it as a source for fruits and vegetables. In 1857 the gardens of the castle with the same name were redesigned. Those English landscape based castle gardens are up to this day the foundation of what Keukenhof Garden is today. A pleasant park to stroll in with winding paths and several unexpected see-through places.
It was only years later that Keukenhof was developed to the theme park it is today. Growers and exporters created the idea to display their hybrids to the public. Since then the Keukenhof Garden, located in Lisse, has become one of the Netherland’s most beautiful attractions and is visited by a million Dutch, as well foreign, tourists. Keukenhof tours are open every year from the end of March till May as the 800 different species of tulips are in bloom during this period. With a new theme every year it’s always worthwhile to visit or revisit the spring garden. In 2017 the theme will be Dutch Design, honoring Dutch artists and designers such as Mondrian and Rietveld. One of the flower mosaics shows a Mondriaan based painting combined with two design chairs.
If you think a tulip is just a tulip, come see this park in springtime.
