Flower Festival Canberra – Floriade – 2018
WELCOME SPRING IN AUSTRALIA’S CAPITAL
The inaugural Floriade blossomed in 1988 with a stunning floral display of exotic bulbs and annuals, which grow beautifully in Canberra’s climate. The community embraced the event, making it such a success that it became an annual celebration of spring in Australia. Since its beginnings, Floriade has been held alongside iconic Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra’s Commonwealth Park, the heart of the nation’s capital.
Each year, more than one million blooms combine to create a stunning backdrop to a month-long festival filled with music, cultural celebrations, horticultural workshops, artistic displays, entertainment and recreational activities. Floriade runs from mid-September to mid-October and attracts more than 480,000 attendees each year.

Flower carpet – 2018
OVER 600,000 FLOWERS!
The Flower Carpet is 75 m long by 24 m wide. 1,800 m2 of begonias, around 300 cut flowers per m2!
A hundred volunteers assemble the carpet in 4 hours.
The first Flower Carpet of Brussels was created in 1971 and has been a showstopper every two years on the Grand-Place since 1986.
SCENTS, COLORS, LIGHTS AND SOUNDS…
Every other summer, on the weekend of August 15th, the Flower Carpet offers a chance to stroll across the Grand-Place, a jewel of Gothic architecture, to inhale the fragrant scent of the begonias and admire its details. This extraordinary spectacle is made complete by a visit to the balcony of the Town Hall, which offers a wide-angle view of the work. A musical theme is especially composed for each edition. A concert is given on the Grand-Place every evening and accompanies a magnificent sound-and-light show.

Ely Cathedral's eagerly awaited Flower Festival returns and promises to be one of the most spectacular events in East Anglia. Attractions include eye-catching displays, musical recitals, floral demonstrations and a gift and craft marquee. The Festival's Creative Director is Chelsea gold medal winner, Roger Woolnough. Roger was part of the design team for Westminster Abbey's Festival of Flowers and was the mastermind behind Ely Cathedral's highly acclaimed 2013 Flower Festival, 'In the beginning'.

Every year, the town of Aibonito hosts the largest plant show & sale on the island. It features flower & plant displays, a large section for plant sales, live local music shows (of course) and food kiosks.There are also some rides and games for the kids.
My favorite part is the rows and rows of booths selling all kinds of plants — orchids, fruit trees, vegetable plants, heliconias, gingers, hibiscus … just to name a few. I look forward to this event all year and it is now that time of year again!

Poyntington village near Sherborne is opening its gardens for the first time this year. The gardens opening are very varied and include the Manor House garden as well as a vineyard.
The village is in a valley, so some gardens are sloping up the hillside while others have the River Yeo running through them. Delicious teas will be served.
Proceeds will be divided between the Village Hall and the village church.
